Abstract:

THE IMMISCIBLE BLENDS OF POLYDIMETHYLSILOXANE (PDMS) AND POLYISOPRENE (PI) WERE REACTIVELY COMPATIBILIZED BY MEANS OF MULTIFUNCTIONAL REACTIVE COMPOUNDS CAPABLE OF FORMING CROSSLINKED COPOLYMERS AT THE INTERFACE. INTERFACIAL CHEMICAL REACTION WAS OCCURRED BETWEEN AMINE-FUNCTIONAL PDMS AND MALEIC ANHYDRIDE-FUNCTIONAL PI. DROPLET-MATRIX BLENDS OF PI/PDMS WITH DIFFERENT REACTIVE COMPATIBILIZER LOADINGS WERE EXAMINED BY OPTICAL MICROSCOPY AND RHEOMETRY. THE PI-CONTINUOUS BLENDS SHOW DOUBLE EMULSION MORPHOLOGY INCLUDING DROP CLUSTERS AND SOME DROPS WITH APPARENTLY ROUGH Interfaces. IN CONTRAST, PDMS-CONTINUOUS BLENDS DISPLAYED DOUBLE EMULSION WITH ROUND DROPS THAT DO NOT APPEAR TO AGGREGATE. THE RHEOLOGICAL PROPERTIES ARE ALSO ASYMMETRIC: THE PI-CONTINUOUS BLEND SHOWED GEL-LIKE BEHAVIOR IN OSCILLATORY EXPERIMENTS, HIGH VISCOSITY AND STRONG VISCOSITY OVERSHOOTS IN CREEP EXPERIMENTS, ALL OF WHICH ARE LIKELY ATTRIBUTABLE TO DROP CLUSTERING, WHEREAS PDMS-CONTINUOUS BLENDS SHOWED LIQUID-LIKE BEHAVIOR, AND LOW VISCOSITY DUE TO DROPS COALESCENCE. WE CONSIDER THAT THE OBSERVED MORPHOLOGICAL AND RHEOLOGICAL ASYMMETRY IS ATTRIBUTABLE TO THE ASYMMETRY OF THE COMPATIBILIZER ARCHITECTURE ON THE TWO SIDES OF THE INTERFACE.

Abstract:

The fringes areas interposed between metropolis and territorial ecosystems constitute a new sort of geography of urban sprawl. The difference between urban areas and their surroundings is at present unrecognizable. From this new context, that represent a new life environment for a large part of human population, new perceptive dynamics and new relationships emerge. Various social manifestations reveal unexpected potentialities, ideas, hopes and desires, ignored by traditional political or planning approaches. New interpretations and more profound approaches are necessary to understand such a contemporary condition, where new Interfaces appear and new unexpected landscapes originate. From Interface and Landscape, originate a new Interscape where unexpected relationships and a new aesthetic arouse. Experimental appropriate approaches are essential to turn this condition: sympathetic approaches, social perception, friendly reciprocal learning and action research. These experiential activities involve experts, people, scientific and politicians leading each other towards new dynamical interscape relationships, as our experiential researches demonstrate.

Abstract:

In this paper, the coupling coefficient of two waveguides with conducting Interfaces is calculated analytically. It is shown that the control of interface charge densities via a transverse voltage leads to the control of the coupling. To derive the coupling coefficient, the basic Coupled Mode Theory (CMT) with paraxial approximation is improved to include the effect of conducting Interfaces. The analysis is performed independently for TE and TM polarizations. Several direct applications of this effect including a multiplexer, a coupler and a modulator/switch and programmable grating are introduced.

Abstract:

The wettability at the metal -ceramic Interfaces is important in many applications, such as metal matrix composites (MMCs). The objective of the present paper is to study wetting phenomenon of aluminium base on reactios at interfacial. The effects of alloy elements such as Mg and the processing temperature on wettability were investigated theorically. The reactive wetting is governed not only by the interfacial reaction intensity, ∆Gr, but also by the physical and chemical properties of the resulting interface, ∆δr. The calculated wetting contact angles from physical and chemical model are approximately in agreement with experimental values.

Abstract:

Catalysis stands as a cornerstone of modern chemical processes, shaping industries from energy to pharmaceuticals. This review embarks on a comprehensive journey through the intricate interplay between surface chemistry and catalytic reactivity. Employing a rigorous methodology involving literature from Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar, the study explores key topics. Surface chemistry takes center stage, delving into the principles of adsorption and desorption on catalytic surfaces, guided by forces like van der Waals and electrostatic interactions. Surface reaction mechanisms unveil how surface arrangements drive reaction pathways and selectivity. Catalyst-substrate interactions underscore the synergy between active sites, coordination chemistry, and binding energies. Comparing heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysis reveals distinct advantages and challenges for each approach. Nanocatalysis unveils how nanoparticle size and morphology revolutionize reactivity, with implications spanning environmental sustainability to energy conversion. Catalyst design strategies, encompassing surface area optimization and hierarchical structures, enrich the toolkit. Characterization techniques, from X-ray spectroscopy to electron microscopy, lay bare structural intricacies. Real-world industrial applications illustrate catalysis's impact across petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, and environmental remediation. Challenges of catalyst stability, transient intermediates, and complex multi-step reactions underscore the evolving landscape. The conclusion highlights the potential of catalysis to address global challenges. With innovative techniques and collaborative efforts, catalytic science charts a course towards a sustainable future, poised to tackle society's most pressing issues.
